Queen Mother's Centenary Trophy

Black Bears dominate Centenary at Guards Polo Club

The Black Bears dominated the final of the La Martina Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Centenary Trophy. Guy Schwarzenbach’s team defeated Clarita 9-6 in the final on The Queen’s Ground. The Black Bears were in control for all four chukkas of the match and were 6-2 up at half time.

Clarita came back into the game in the second half and closed the gap, thanks to some great play from Mario Gomez. He scored with just a minute left on the clock and then scored again as the timekeeper raised his hand to ring the bell.

It must be said though, that although Clarita did get back into the game, the Bears always seemed to have the upper hand. But with very few whistles from the umpires and a lovely flowing game, it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Jean Du Plessis’s Marmite was named Best Playing Pony.

Black Bears: Guy Schwarzenbach; Dirk Gould; Simon Keyte; Jean Du Plessis

Clarita: Mario Gomez, Sam Gairdner; Santiago De Estrada; Chris Mathias.

Lambourne came from behind to win the subsidiary final, defeating Aravali 10-9.
