FIP Forum 2008
FIP POLO FORUM AT GUARDS
Patrick Guerrand-Hermes, FIP's president, opened the second Public Polo Forum, held at Guards Polo Club on Wednesday, 28 May. Guests included Major Christopher Hanbury, chairman, HPA; David Woodd, HPA chief executive, and the host, Guards Polo Club chairman, Colonel Paul Belcher.
Various topics were discussed, including whether or not the World Championship handicap aggregate should be raised; and how best to increase the profile of polo and obtain better worldwide coverage. Chilean 8-goaler Jaime Garcia Huidobro suggested the introduction of test matches, and said that FIP needed to focus on the higher end of the game.
Patrick Guerrand-Hermes said that FIP was continuing to work for the eventual reintroduction of polo as an Olympic disclipline, which it had last been in 1936.
